HanPan Doctor

Handpan Tuning & Restoration

For over 30 years, I have worked with tuned metal instruments.
I offer professional tuning, retuning, and restoration services for most handpans, regardless of their maker or material.

Handpans from different makers can be serviced while respecting their original design and sonic identity.

My work with metal tuning began in 1993 with the building and tuning of steelpans.
In 2003, I created the first French handpans and later co-founded Metalsounds, where I served as principal tuner for more than fifteen years.

During this period, several hundred handpans from various origins were tuned or restored at the workshop.

Since then, I have serviced handpans from different makers, using a variety of materials and constructions: nitrided steel, raw steel, stainless steel, standard scales, or extended scales.

Each instrument is approached individually, with careful attention to its structure, stability, and tonal character.

Services

Most handpans can be serviced, including:

• full retuning
• localized tuning corrections
• tonal refinement and balance
• structural repairs when possible

Every intervention is carried out with respect for the original construction and acoustic balance of the instrument.

The goal is always to preserve the instrument’s sonic identity while restoring its accuracy and stability.

How It Works

1. Initial Evaluation

Send a description of your instrument, ideally with a short video, so its condition and tuning can be assessed.

2. Quotation

A detailed proposal will be provided based on the work required.

3. Shipping or Drop-Off

Once the quote is approved, the instrument can be shipped or dropped off at the workshop by appointment.
Each instrument is handled individually and returned with secure packaging when necessary.
